There is no way to define it. It depends on sooooooo many things. Time of year, temp, weather conditions, the specific dog your using and there ability to get excited over older tracks. What is a cold track to one dog is smokin hot to another and on and on. In a nutshell, if a coon crosses the road in front of you, that track is hot. If the coon crossed the road at 7 am and you put your dogs on it at 7 pm that would be a cold track, but this is just an example. There are too many degree's of hot and cold and too many types of dogs to define it on simple terms. I hope that helps.

My dogs hot tracks right now are what the coon did about 8 hours ago. I'm trying to figure out a way of breaking him of it.

So far the only thing is to let him run for about an hour until he's pretty tired. Then the rest of the hunt he's less excited and more focused. Other than that I'm not sure what to try.

I'm fairly new to coon hunting just started last year but a cold track to me is a track that is fairly old. My 1 1/2 year old Bluetick can tree really well on a hot track but it took some time for him to be able to figure out those cold tracks. To me a cold track is a track where the coon was there about 30 minutes or so and has went on to another place but I'm sure other people have other thoughts
