Do you think that because I am raising my dog as a family dog as a puppy that it will effect how he will turn out as a hunting dog in the future? He is almost 3 months old right now.

No that will not hurt ur dog at all as a matter of fact i think it builds trust and a bond that will come in handy later down the road while in the coon woods thats a nice lookin blue dog

that blue dog is pretty! i have a 2 yr old i just got i swear on my life if i had it my way and wasnt married that blue dog would sleep at the foot of my bed... just make sure you keep a balance with hunting and wood exposure and loud noises such as guns going off and most important socialize the dog with other dogs...that pup will do just fine

The dog trainer I got my pup from always says the more attention you give them the better dog they will be. His top dog that all his pups come from was house broke.

Our best hound is a housedog, has titles in agility and does scent detection demos in the classroom.

As soon as his collar goes on, he is all about coon. He got 3 treed up in an hour after a snowstorm we had. We weren't going to go out, because the coon around here hate snow and cold, but that dog will find coon in the worst conditions!

He is a lot of fun, talented in the woods, but mostly we love him on our laps in the evening and keeping us warm in bed!

What are some of yalls opinions on letting your hunting dog stay inside of your house at night to sleep but outside all day good, bad, or you don't think it matters if you got a good dog he'll do just fine. Who leaves there huntin dog inside.

I have a mountain cur I keep inside. She is only a year old and will tree as many squirrels as you want to when you take her out. She handles better than any dog I've ever owned. She is spoiled but is a good hunting dog. I don't think it hurts a thing letting them inside.

These are my hounds that live in the house!! The blue and the walker are top notch squirrel and coon dogs. The little red one hasn't seen a coon yet but she's comin along!! I have had several hounds live with me during the years. Come fall they start living outside tho cause I like to get them used to the cold for hide season!! If ur home is air conditioned be careful because bringing them from the cool of your house to the outside to run in 110 degree heat can be pretty hard on em!?

yrs ago i had a pup i raised outside. i hunted him and hunted him but he would not stay treed for more then 10 minutes no matter how i tried to get him to. i finally gave up and just house broke him and made him my house dog. funny part is every now and then when i let him out at night to go pee, he would go to the near by park and tree a coon and stay untill i came to get him....go figure.
i have seen many fine hounds that lived in the house as the family dog that were just as much a coondog as any in the timber.

I have a red bone I raised in a hotel / extended stay! She is 15 months old now and living in my condo in Chicago!! But about 3 or 4 days a week I will drive out of town to a buddys house! She is a 100% coon dog! At a comp hunt the other night she split with the coon about 75 yards behind the other three dogs!! So I'm going to say that it doesn't matter where u raise them or keep them!! Just spend the time training them!

ive owned in the past only males but was curious to you guys opinion what would make a better pet for kids and inside the home here and there but occasionally hunt with ..male or females...fixed of course thinking of bluetick ive heard diff coonhound breeds can make better pets?...

is there any difference in temperment in male and female as n a pet and or if fixed ....ive heard females do better off leash as in the yard and listening is that true
