My year and 2 month old bluetick female is just now getting started real good. she will stretch out there about 200 yards looking for a coon and we have already shot out two. i have only hunted her solo because i dont want her to become a me too dog but anyways here is my question last night she got on a trail and she went 500 yards away from me trailing and it was like she just hit a wall she turned around and came right back to me i would normally say well maybe she lost the scent but she has done this to me twice she just will not go over 500 yards away has anyone ever herd or seen this before?

If I think one of mine are bothering deer ill drive around til I find one, run them off then get the dog out to see how it acts. I've used shockers but sometimes just growl them. And that's for any game I don't want them to run. I have that when she was that age would stop at 600 yards then come back. Now at 2 1/2 she has no limits and sometimes goes miles. Some nights I miss those days.
I understand not wanting a "me too" dog but I like to get mine around a lot of dogs hunting or not just to make sure there comfortable incase you ever plan on hunting them with other dogs.

If you think a dog is running off game like a deer. Chances are your right 75% of the time .((After you get to know a dog real well))..But with young dogs you never know forsure..A lot of dogs will change there voice if they are bawl mouth to a chop when on a really hot track .....Your dog could have put a coon in the ground or even caught it on the ground and killed it...I know a lot of dogs will run and catch a possum.Kill it and come right back to you or keep on hunting.....If you think a dog is running off game try to catch them doing it...The easy way is to hunt a dog on snow or in a muddy field so you can see the tracks the dog is running......If you know forsure the dog is running off game then you need to break them...

was it in the same area both times? Do you have many coyotes? I have had my dog come screaming straight back to me once she realized it was coyotes she was trailing
