So I'm one of the new guys hear. Most post I read about training the answer normally includes "just keep hunting the pup. They will figure it out". When y'all say this what do you mean? I've been shining coon and shooting them and she finishes them off once on the ground. She tracks them but doesn't really tree or bark yet. She's only eight months but I just want to know what your definition of "just keep hunting them" is? Thanks. Tom

don't shine and shoot coon the pup doesn't tree by herself. That will make her light-crazy and she will want to tree every time she sees a light in a tree. There are several good articles/posts on this forum on how to start a pup, but I will put in my opinion. You can trap a cage coon and let her run and tree it, but don't overdo it on the cage coon. And probably the quickest way to start a dog is by hunting it with a fully trained dog. Once the pup figures out what to do, then you can put a lot of time on her by herself
