consider the weather but dont let it keep you inside. take plenty of cold water and water the dogs after every turnout. usually the difference between this pup, that pup, and the other pup is the amount of time in the woods. get him in there.

i have a 9 month old pup who is in good shape and once i get a tracking system i will have him in the woods 3 night a week at least my old dog has been gettin hunted so he's in shape.

i have a pup that will be a year in august that i want to get going now so he knows what he's doing by kill season.i don't have an older dog to hunt with. where should i hunt that would be the easiest for him to pick up a track? i can hunt a little woods that cattle are in, that borders corn then there is a little bigger woods that is surrounded by beans and also a big timber that i could probably be able to hunt that is bordered by corn and hay and is being logged some

benhanson imo the best spot to start a pup is in the corn fields.thts where i am starting my pup.jmo

the best way for you to help your dog pick up an easy track is for you to find out where the coon are running and when the coon are runnin. other than that, water. the wet moist cool areas hold the best scent. around here corn is starting to tossle out so they will be in the corn fields in around 7-10 days when corn is getting good. their out in beenfields eating night crawlers and starting in apple trees right now. i would find a good creek bottom is prob the easiest drop especially one near a corn or beanfield. every once in a while i like to take a walk on my hunting spots each week so i can find coon poop what coon are after tracks where there goin and all that good stuff hope this helps

how should you reward the dog during summer months without shooting it out is that where treats come in handy?

I got a pup one year old and he ran a track the other evening and barked on track I am 16 years old should I start hunting him now in the summer seen a coon when he was younger is he ready to start hunting in the woods by hisself

We really like to run pups here in the summer cause all the corn in the fields makes it easy to put them on a hot track. I think starting them on easy ones has helped alot.

By taking them hunting. Hunting, tracking, trailing, and treeing is what they were bred to do. Some of the best hounds I have ever owned, "and I've owned some pretty good ones" never took part in the killing of a single coon. A simple pat on the head, and an atta boy will surfice for a treat in the summertime.
