My 11 month walker was making tremendous progress for the last few months and over the course of his work has ran track very well and treed two possum and one coon. I noticed when he treed the coon and we shot it to him that the .22 startles him. He doesn't run or shake, he just stops treeing and watches us till it falls. Since then he still runs a good track but never finishes to the tree. Could his shyness be making him second guess treeing or is it something else?

It very well could be. I'd take him out let him smell the gun then chain him up and shoot a while. Don't stand right next to him go a ways away and work closer. See how he reacts. If he starts acting scared give it a break and try a few days later. Keep doing it until he's ok with it. Also carry the gun with you so he gets used to seeing it. My pup knows when my pistol is out he's going running. Even in the off season I carry and I only carry that pistol in the woods.
