I just picked up a 5 yr old redbone male nice handeling dog good in kennel and with other dogs but when he is trailing he is bawling on track once and a while chop but he seems to lose the trail and will silently return to where he stuck track and rerun it he did this for a half hour before I took him home would like some advice if there is anything I can do to help break him of starting the trail over and not being able to take it further

Catch him up where he started it and try to turn him around, he may be taking it backwards and isn't turning himself to get it right. Or maybe try to follow him closer and see if he's actually putting an end to the track and just isn't treeing. He may be leaving coon sit to run the track again.

I have a 6 year old Bluetick that does the exact same thing. I have let him run it for 30 or more min. hoping that he would figure it out. I have tried a lot of different things to push him on. Now when he gets onto one of these tracks I just pull him from the area and hit a different spot. To me its like there is sent there just not good enough for him to line it out and take off with it or he is to dumb to figure it out. Any advice on how to break him of this habit would be nice.
