Ok I have a one year old english male and a 5 year old walker and they both seem like they can't find out what tree the coon goes to. I released a coon that I caught because it was under mmy house and my one year old went to the tree and treed for about 1 inute them he left and I thought well he's young then I turned loose mmy 5 year old and he couldn't find the tree to save his life. He ran passed it 5 times. He will tree coons I know because he did all last season. Then he finnaly found out. Then I cut the tail off and drug it and he can't hardley find it but when he finally does he will half way tree it any ideas how I can fix that too?

The only thing that will make dogs look stupider than a coon you saw cross the road is one you turn loose. Don't worry about it if they tree coons in season.

Thanks I'm just worried about ym one year old. He just doesn't seem like he wants to tree it. He will for a minute or two but then he's just sniffing around but I guess its because he's one. And yea I know that darn coon ran for a good mile. I've never had luck treeing coons that crossed the road this one old man said its because the scent is still in the air or something like that but you know how old men and there storries kinda don't make sense

Well the walker is doing a lot better now. We ran himm last night and early this morning and every time he treed there was a coon in the tree. My. Pup on the other hand is still having trouble. I drug a coon tail in the woods and put it in the tree. The first time he treed it good then I chained him up and drug it somemore and he ran slap past it atleat 10 times. Idk if he's sight treeing or what but I'm trying to work the kinks out of him.

if it was my pup i would just keep hunting him.if that pup is bred to tree and you hunt him alot he will go to treeing you coons.if he aint bred to tree coons there aint a thing you can do about it.treeing is bred in a dog,i dont think humans can teach them.good luck with your dogs.

I more or less agree but put 30 nights on a 6 month old and then put 30 more nights on it by the time it is 10 months old. See what I am saying? Then let it get froze up up north or the gators come out down south and put the dog up for three months . Bring out that 13 month old and it go right to treeing. See what I mean? Age has a whole bunch to do with making a coondog. JMO

The more you do drags and released coons will just mess up most dogs..This time of yr can be hard on some dogs.Kitten coon are down and some dogs really have a hard time treeing them. While others don't.It can take a yr or longer to get a young dog going really good..Unless your really lucky..LOL..

I agree didn't explain myself clearly, I just meant a 1 yr old dog that has 5 nights under his belt, compared to a 1 yr old that has 40 nights. Obv the dog that has 40 nights will look better, even though there both 1yr old.
