Hello everyone! I have been seriously considering putting my Smokey River bred blue female on bear instead of coon. I can't find anyone around here that coon hunts that has dogs that I would want to run her with so she doesn't get to go out and I know for a fact that she would get to run at least once or twice a month if I get her on bear. I just want to know what everyone else thinks about this, their opinions, because I really want her to be a great dog at what ever it is that I choose and I have been back and forth about this for a while. She is just slow, as all Smokey River dogs are (generally), and I am a little afraid that she will get hurt on bear but I suppose the odds are almost as good on coon, I don't know. Let me know what yall think. Thank ya!

Have you tried to hunt her by yourself. I know its hars to find people to hunt with. I have the same problem here so I just go solo.

No, I have never trained a dog just by hunting by themselves. I think I have pretty much talked myself into bear hunting her anyways but I don't know for sure and was just wanting opinions.

Hey bear hunting her is better than sitting her up. Im sure shell enjoy running a bear more than sitting around.

If all you get to go is once or twice a month I would suggest you just spectate don't take it wrong but you probably never will have a decent Dog hunting that little And it isn't fair to them to get out there and get torn up from lack of training and experience. Not trying to ruffle your feathers but that's my opinion on it.

Good point. I am sure that she will be hunted more than that. That is the very least that our dogs are hunted, and hardly ever that small of an amount.
