I have a 10 month old b&t female that has tracked and came treed on a den tree, then split treed from the older dog and had the meat, the wether has been bad so it's been sparse hunting days. Maybe 2 times in 3 weeks. Before that sparse time she was opening on track. Since then I've released 3 caged coon for her to tree Released them about 60 yards into the woods to get her to know she has to go out to find a track. She found 1 of these coon. And it was the one i had released by my truck while she was out hunting. But she was on a leash when I walked her over the track and she never opened. Given she has treed and split treed with the meat why is she now not picking up these easy hot tracks? And not opening?

Some dogs have trouble with really hot tracks.I would not worry about her.You only want to do it until she can tree one anyway.Shes already done that.So its best not to do the released coon anymore..Shes still very young you have all spring and summer to hunt her..When its a lot better to hunt young dogs...Dont hunt her too hard take it slow and easy with her until next fall. Then she should be ready for some hard hunting.

Ok, I just didn't understand why she couldn't work this easy hot track when she could tree one that was probably no where near as hot.

X2 with Chet. Give no more cage coon. I've seen my B&T have trouble with some real hot tracks when she was younger too they have more of a colder nose kinda like a smell overload for that young nose to handle.
