Hello to All,
I purchased a 2 yr old Bluetick last week from a hog hunter. I really knew nothing about him except that the guy did not like him because every time he would turn loose with the hog dogs, this Bluetick would go off on his own and tree a coon. I don't know if or what he did, but I know that it made the guy mad and he tried to discourage it. Well, it the dog kept going for coons so the guy sold him to me. When I picked up the dog, the guy handed me a packet and said he had not opened it. On the way home, I looked through it and this dog had been hunted quite a bit, he has wonderful bloodlines, and is eligible for the 2012, 2013 PKC Superstakes. He is all paid up. I contacted the last name on the papers and found that this was a phenominal coon dog, but was sold due to money problems.
Now that I have him and have been giving him good food and getting him settled in here, what should I start with? Should I go out and hunt him like he never stopped? Looking for some advice. Thanks to all, Josh in Texas

LOL, I think you answered your own question. Just go hunt him since he knows what to do.

I guess my question did sound kind of dumb. Like I said, when I opened the dogs packet, I saw evidence of all kinds of different hunting events. I figured he would go back to hunting like he knows how, but I was just wondering if there is anything that I should watch for or discourage. I guess I will cast him like he never stopped and see what happens. Thanks for the input, Josh

Frog!!! You are probably joking!!

But if your not > Its the Hog that STINKS not the dogs. A top Hog Dog is a prized animal just like a top Coon Dog.

Also> a Hog Dog that runs off game is as bad as a Coon Dog that runs off game.

Then too> a lot of Hog hunters have PRIDE in their sport just like Coon hunters AND its a MUCH tougher sport!!! I do both > with Bear hunting on top of that!!!

it takes a better dog to be a coon dog in my opinion though cause at the end of the track the coon dog cant see his game hes gotta trust his nose just my friendly opinion of the two i love hog hunting but i think coon hunting is more of a challenge for the dogs and the dogs have to be a little more top notch

Hey Guys, thanks for all the advice. I decided there was really no way to know until I tried. I went out on some family land that has 17 miles of Colorado river frontage were I knew I would run across hogs and coons. I have only gone out 4 times now, but so far he will go out pretty far and strike a coon track. I know he has crossed several hog wollers and has not made a sound. He has treed a coon 4 out of 4 times. I guess the guy was right. Thanks again fellas
