Im looking at getting a started/finished walker in a few months, im not going to be able to hunt him as much as i want to and was wondering if it would mess him up if I went jogging with him and kept him on a leash, would he then think we were jogging everytime I took him to the woods? Just trying to give him some exercise during the week if were not hunting.

I agree with hootchandjaws. I have a four year old walker and he knows when its running time, and if its dark he goes into to hunting mode. Jogging shouldnt hurt the dog one bit.

The difference will be when you unsnap the lead. If he hangs by you just ignore him and he will get going. If the dog is started he won't wait for you. They know the difference.

I used to jog with my dog and he definitely knew the difference. In town on the leash he stuck by my side and became a very good jogging partner, a real pleasure. In the woods he would run and wouldn't stick by my side even if I wanted him to.

Having a dog run down a road is not a good idea...Ive seen many dogs thats be roaded to get them into shape.Take off while hunting right down the middle of the road for a few miles or so until they where caught..One of my friends even had a dog he roaded killed while hunting in a night hunt a few years ago.....I always road my dogs off road with a Mule, quad or a bike..
