To sammy alex.its all good...when I'm starting the young dogs I switch from feed piles to natural food sources so they don't get used to hunting feed piles and it don't cost me, The most important thing is to try to set them up so that in the begining they get positive results and in turn it develops a confident dog that will suceed in any condition.Same thing with caged coon first I show it to them and when they are fired up I hide the cage in the woods and make them find it, this can be done at early ages.

Tell ya what toe cutter suggest on here holden the young dog back and not let em mouth the coon when you shoot it out that has been a great tool for putten a little fire in the pups.

I only let my dog touch maybe one outta a dozen and he runs a coon like he's lookin at it LOL
