I have a 16 month old pup who is just starting to tree coon. She has trouble locting the right tree I find them and call her back and tell her to hunt em up and she will get it right and stay there but I dont know if this is gonna hurt her in the long run. Is there anything besides hunting her more that will help. I know this is a crucial point in training so I want to do it right.

Greenhorn in my opinion i wouldnt call her back may teach her to me2 a dog. Just let her be and figure it out on her own right or wrong.

I am definitely inexperienced so any response from me usually turns out to be a "don't do what I did!" My dog would run a track and sometimes run past the tree or if he treed it would be quick and then he'd be off again. I was calling him back to the tree regularly (after I shined the tree and picked the right one). Didn't turn out so well because my dog got used to me finding the coon so he'd either stick close to me or would just have fun running around and wait for me to call him. I pretty much stopped doing that and he's gotten better. I have a coonhound though, not a coondog, so as far as tips go I'd be a fool to not keep my mouth shut.

You wanna let him work it out I'll let my dog tree for a half hour 45 min sum times it helps him build that conference . He's tellin u there's a coon there so if he's sure he will stay there . Don't go into the woods till ur sure ur dog is treed and sum times u just have to sit back and enjoy the sound of a job well done

i had a coon kill 2 of my chickens so i trapped it wet it down and released it. Then I went to the house put the cage up grabbed the gun collared the dog and went. She winded it the whole time I turned her loose about 30 yards from the track she took it I thought she was messing around. Then she treed about 180 yards away. I slowly walked up there she stayed the whole time I tied her up praised her good and shot the thing it landed about two feet from her she went to screaming at it so I let her mouth it a little. A few nights later we went out and she treed hard for about a half an hour in this mangled mess of blown down trees I looked for ever she continued to bark I couldnt find it so we just walked out but I dont know if I should be happy about that because I didnt see a coon.
