Get a caged coon let em have fun with that for a little and turn the coon loose and let them run it tell it trees
It shouldn't take to long for the coon to tree
at least in my knowledge

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'll give it a try. I'm new here and my name is Luke Jackson, I'm 16 years old and live I live in west central Minnesota. Here is the deal, I have always wanted to own a hound and I finally have my chance. I've never had any exsperience with coon hounds and coon hunting. I normally just trap coon so this is all new to me. I have a few questions for you guys:

#1 What would be a good breed for me? I'll be hunting mostly coons, but make try for a coyote at one point in time. Also, I've never trained a coon hound before so I need one that isn't to terrible to train. I'm thinking a redbone.

#2 What do I need for equipment to train my new hound once I buy it?

#3 What do I need for equipment to hunt with my new hound once I train it?

#4 Where can I find a qaulity hound in Minnesota, or near there?

I need all the help I can get.

Thank you so much!
Luke

I'm about to get back into coon hunting. I'm currently working on getting me a truck a dog and some places to hunt. I coon hunted with my brother and dad when I was a teen but had to get out of it when I went to college. We were pretty basic hunters we had our dogs, a box, a 10/22 and some old flash lights (though at the end my brother finally got his hands on an old cajun light). To say the least I'm not up with what's available and even what's needed to be an affect coon hunter again. Could you folks help me come up with a list of needed gear, that I'll need to get my hands on and some good place to look for them. Thanks for your help.

LESS MONEY IN= MORE FUN TO HAVE
MORE MONEY INVESTED=MORE STRESS!!LOL.
JUST HAVE FUN,IF YOU REALLY LOVE IT, YOU WILL EVENTUALLY BUY STUFF THAT MAKES IT EASIER. DONT TAKE THINGS TOO SERIOUS AND FIND A BUDDY. USUALLY SOMEONE HAS A TRACKING COLLAR YOU CAN BORROW IF YOU HAVE TO. THERE ARE ALOT OF GUYS THAT CAN BUILD A GUY A CHEAP LIGHT TO GET HIM BY TOO.AN OLD PLASTIC 55 GAL. BARREL CAN MAKE A GREAT DOG BOX TOO. DONT HUNT A PUP WITH A KNOWN CRAP EATER OR AN ILL DOG.
