JOY SPECIAL MEAL... during the winter and JOY BASIC MEAL... during the summer They are the best feeds we've ever used. They're good quality foods that are cheap and affordable. Try 'em out. |

I measure out and feed twice a day to all my hounds and pits.. Some will eat more /less and all of their diets seem to change summer to winter and it helps me keep an eye on their appetite. |

I measure and feed... I find that it not only matters HOW MUCH they eat, but also WHEN they eat... so by feeding them myself, I can control both and ensure that when the time comes, they perform at their peak. |

i use ol roy, its cheap and good. i used diamond, till it killed one of my english dogs, and nearly killed my walker till i hurried and switched its feed. |

I have fed hounds raw meat for years and never had a problem with worms. If your dogs are on a proper worming regimen you shouldn't have to worry at all. Chicken is costly but coin meat is free in hide season!! In the last few years I have gone from wild meat. I now buy a used up old horse at the sales barn and butcher it it supplies enough meat for a winter for many dogs and is cheap. The last old horse I bought only cost me 8 cents a pound. An old horse also makes a cheap bait pile for my wolf trapline as well. There's no labour to it as you can walk the horse right out to your set location and don't have to carry bags or buckets of meat or drag a big Ol carcass through the bush. |

Science Diet. We had a dog with bad kidney problems. Vet did not expect her to make it but for a few months. Suggested changing her diet to possibly help her along a bit longer. She lived for several more years before we eventually put her down. Maybe coincidence but changing to Science Diet for all our dogs appeared to imProve thier overal health. |

I try to get good food that isn't going to break me. My dogs have done really good on Ol' Roy High Performance from Wal-Mart. It is something like 27/18. All my dogs have grown well and look really good. I am trying a new one now though. There is a local place that makes dog food about 20 min from me. It is called Sextons. They have several different mix ratios. All of the hunters aroung here use it and have esed it for years. Ol Roy HP is around $25 for 50 lb and Sextons is 20 for 50. I guess it never hurts to try something new. |

I believe the way you ration the food is important too. I once had 2 walker bitches. One was skinny, hard to keep weight on her and the other was a little heavier built and tended to get a little fat. I started feeding them large servings every 2 days. The skinny one put on weight and the fat one lost weight. |

There is a lot of good feeds on the market today, it boils down to which does the best for your hounds..I been feeding Purina One for years and my hounds do well on it.. |
