im wantin to upgrade to one of the better ones i just got the explorist 100 the 100 is a good unit easy to learn im wonderin how good the more expensive ones are

Hey Jimmie,

The explorist 500, 600 and XL give you a color screen and the ability to load maps of different regions. the XL also has a larger screen than the 600 and 500. I have a meridian and the color screen sure eats batteries. I ended up getting some rechargeables and they are saving me some serious money

I have a GPS that I bought 10 years ago and it still works fine. It is not as accurate or as fast, but still gets me to the truck every time.
I also sent a message to Garmin about their 2 way radios that can show you your hunting buddies location. I asked them if they could make a transmitter for a dog collar. The higher end models have a proximity alarm. So if a contact gets out of a specified radius or a specified distance of a way point (like a busy road) it will notify you. This would be great and could save your dogs life. I know this would not work in mountainous areas but around here in Indiana I think it would work great.
They replied back stating that they are not in the tracking business, but things change pretty fast around here and they would pass my message along to engineering.

I tell you, Ron, I wouid gladly pay a premium for that features. being able to track your dog via GPS would be the nuts. Especially after finding my dog about 50 feet from a busy state highway on the other side of a barrier fence.
