Post subject:  Garmin question

I'm in the market for a tracking collar and am interested in the alpha series. The only problem is I've heard something about not being able to use them in UKC hunts. Is this true and is it the alpha handheld or one of the collars that is against UKC rules? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes and no on using it during a UKC Nite Hunt.

So if you have an Alpha and TT 15 Collar, it can be turned ON but left in the truck and can only be used during time-outs since it is also an E-Collar.

If you have an Alpha and T5 Collar, you can use during hunt time as the T5 Collar has no shocking features.

Basically, to use the Alpha during a Nite Hunt, you must only use with a T5 Collar, yet you can have the TT 15 Collar but handheld must stay in truck and only used during time-outs.

You can use the alpha as long as your using the t5 collar. The t10 and t15 have the training features built in them (shock collars) thats why you cant use them in ukc hunts.

Sometimes you can get away with the TT10 if you take out the prongs. There's an insert that disables the shock. The intention was that would make it competition ready. The problem is you can't disable the tone so they are technically not cleared for use. Honestly I just put it on in case I need it and leave the alpha in the truck. You should be able to call your dog without it in a competition. I mostly use it when I'm out by myself.
