I have the 320 and dc40 and have the same problem. What i do is turn the collar and garmin both on as soon as i load my dog sometimes it takes a few minutes other times ive waited 20 minutes or more but it eventually starts working right.

I updated my collars off the garmin website last night and it started to work, maybe that will fix your problem as well

Ill try that, i wasnt sure if it was the collar or the handheld. Ive had so many issues with it this year with that and having to find my way back to the truck because the compass just stays in one direction and the same with finding my dog. Ive recalibrated the compass multiple times im thinking about going back to the 220

Another thing about the 320 is it eats batteries i usually had to replace them every night i went out. I ended buying the rechargable ones through garmin and aint had a problem yet. So keep that in mind too if your still wanting to upgrade.

I know this post is kinda old, but this may help someone else. The dc40 collars sometimes drop gps signal or won't get signal to begin with because the antenna breaks internally where you cant see it. You can get new longer tuff skin antennas for about $10 at ebay, conkleys(where I bought mine) or any other hound store and they are really easy to change and that fixed the problem. I changed all mine over to the longer new antenna and have no problems linking up and staying connected

I'm looking for a set up for my dog and have been looking at some used 320's and dc40's. Should I try to find a 220 and 30 instead. It's so hard to make a decision on a unit cause they ain't cheap and wanna make the right choice.
