It's not bad at all. I just changed my first one this week. You need two Phillips tip screw drivers....the last two screws that actually hold the battery are super small. I bought the replacement battery from gpscity.com and it came with simple instructions on how to change it. Just make sure the wire connections are plugged in correctly before you put it all back together. I didn't the first time! LOL
