Has anyone replaced their antennas on dc 40 collar with the "tuff skin" replacements that is sold on e-bay?
I was wondering if they improved your gps reception, here in the hills of southern WV I lose reception frequently, especially when dogs cross a point/ridge or something similar. Thanks Big Ed

its usually the handheld and collar lose communication with each other, not gps signal.the handheld and collar communicate to each other with radio signals just like the beep beep jobs. if your alert says lost communication with collar its the radio signal your losing. the longer antennas improve that because of better line of sight for the radio signals. but has nothing to do with the gps lock.if you are losing connection with the gps part, the longer antennas won't help you.
the new 40's stock come with longer antennas then the 30's did stock. but i changed mine over anyway. bout like the 30's I gained 1/4 to 1/2 mile (1 mile to 1 1/2) on the 30's.
the 40 was 1 1/2 miles stock,w/tuff skin went to 1 3/4 to 2miles. flat land.
but mainly what i like more then range is i dont lose communication nearly as much between the handheld and collar. its because the longer antennas have more surface area for the radio signals.
tonight I didnt lose signal all night, my buddy has a stock antenna and i could hear his lost com w/collar alert beeping several times. dogs were together.

i changed a antenna on a dc 30 the other day and the owner cut his stock garmin antenna apart.... its plastic with a thin spring wound around it.
