In the next two months gonna buy a garmin astro, and I have couple questions hoping you all can help with. I guess first do I have to buy a topo map if I don't is it worth the extra money? Or should I buy the street maps so i can use it as a gps for traveling also? If I add maps does it decrease the battery life? Do I need the portable long range antenna or does the garmin do fine alone? I saw on the garmin site that they sale a rechargeable battery kit for the astro do they last as long as regular batteries? Anything else that might help me when buying to no what I need or isn't worth the money or what to look for from the place I'm buying from such as some are preloaded and some aren't. Thanks!

if ur hunting with anything else ur backing up. do the the mapping for the area ur in, it helps a lot. i got a long rang ant never had to used it. i use the folding ant. all the time. find u one of them.( batt.) i us reg batt. ill hunt 8 or 9 time with two reg batt.its the best thing ive ever used

You will never regret getting a Garmin. I suggest getting the topo map. It will have most of the roads and trails on it and you can still use it to travel with. I just got the long range ant. It will give you better range but the one that comes on it works good. You should go to Garmin.com and down load the Webupdater and keep your Astro 220 and collars updated. It really helps. It is the best investment that I have ever made. I even use it Deer huntin.
