what works better? 8lb is heavier and 6lb swings faster

which ever one you think you can handle the most lol really no difference in my opinion this is for sure your gonna be wore out by the time you get done doing what your doing

i would use the 8lb a little less swing

i use a 10lb splittn maul sold 40rickthis yr and 27 last year all split by it. Ud laugh if you saw me physical shape to 6'3 and 140lbs hahaha so heavier it is less swing.

hydraulics and a five horse engine is hard to beat.

I am a 15 year old boy who splits wood every day after school and resell it after it dries. Their is 2 boys in my school who also sell wood. They bet me 4 cord that they could split 2 cord faster with their woods splitter than i could with by hand. well im am pretty good sized boy Im about 6 ft 1 and about 245 pounds and those kids loved to call me Fatty and such. well I beat them so bad it wasnt funny and their father was wicked mad that they bet that wood. BUT 3 or 4 hours later the boys father came over with 2 cord of split wood and then he came back with another load later that night. i never was called fatty or slow or anything like that since then.


I used an 8lb maul But i have never used anything other than that so i wouldnt know

They should call you John Henry. Famous story of a guy who beat a rock drill by using a sledge hammer and stone drill. You keep going if it works for you but at some point you will find a hydraulic splitter begins to look like a nice option. My father in law and I used to split wood for his woodpile and if the temp was really cold the oak logs would just pop apart. The eight pounder saved time on those days to since you could set up the log where it lay and split it without rolling it to the machine.

Yea im sure eventually i will buy a wood slitter but the maul keeps me in pretty good strength for baseball/football so I stick with the maul for a while
