dog got into it with a coon last night. wound on side, and ear, and she was bleadin from her mouth when she ate her feed this morning, that cleared up shortly after though.

just wonderin if yall give baths or do somethin to clean the wounds, peroxide perhaps?? she seems to be tendin to her wound on the side well, none of her cuts are bad, little bit of dry blood thats it. what would you guys do? no swollen parts so no teeth were broke off in her to my knowledge. thanks.

I just get a clean wash rag some warm water in a clean bucket ,put some soap in the water and clean all the wounds real good. Then i will soak the wounds with peroxide, once every thing is dry i will put neosporin on everything.Sometime if a wound gets infected a littel i will just squeeze the puss out then peroxide and neosporin.

Betadine is great.It works wonders.

Peroxide can leave the wound too moist and alcohol can over dry it.Though they both will work.

Unless their gapping wounds I'd just rinse them out good and let the dog keep it clean. Their pretty good at that. Betadine is a good one if you feel it needs attention.

my one hound got into it with a coon lastnight. he got two nice gashes, one on the cheek and one on top of the head. i was washed it out with soap and water then put some neosporin.

Is there anything i should do different? I want to avoid infection but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a trip to the vet.

I use betadine. Squirt some in warm water and have it diluted until it looks like iced tea. Soak a rag in it and hold the wet rag to the wound. I soak the wound 2-3 times per day and try to keep the wound from scabbing over too fast. If the scabs form too quickly then you can't keep the inside clean and it can trap infection in. After I've soaked it I put a little neosporin on. The trick is to keep the wound somewhat open so it can heal from the inside out.

Another thing you guys can do for your dogs wounds is to use clippers and clip all the hair surrounding them it keeps the wound cleaner the betadine is especially great for deep wounds but at work if its shallow we just use peroxide we chareg $40 to clip and clean wounds at work and that is basically all we do :)
