What is the collar made of? Some are rough and some cause problems because the dog is actually allergic to the collar. In that case you can run the collar through a thick sock with a hole cut in the toe so it doesn't rub as much. It may look funny but it might help it heal faster. A leather collar is usually good for most dogs. Nylon is rough and reflective ones are the ones that seem to cause a skin reaction.

You could also buy a dog harness instead of the collar. Some are cheap some aren't. Don't know how much the dog pull's on the chain. If he does pull hard its not advised to put a harness on because he can pull harder.

how about finding a cheap kennell. dogs on chains are a recipe for disaster. i have 5 dogs. i drive around and find houses with old kennels in the yard. i stop and offer a little cash for them and usually make out ok.

My make beagle that I keep on chain. He is really active. His collar has rubbed a raw spot on his neck. I cleaned it up and put him in a pen. What can I put on it to help it heal and not get infected. What can I do to keep it from happening again.maybe a wider collar?
