I walk mine about a mile every day on the leash through the woods... railroad ties or electricity work good to put around the fence to keep them from digging out... It's really slim chances that dogs will breed through a chain link fence as well. Actually never heard of it happening, but I guess anything is possible though...

I would say that would be a big enough kennel. I would be more worried about dogs digging under. Heat cycles usually last 17-21 days. Just depends on the dog.

Usually the first heat is at around 6 months old. They are in heat for about a month but many dogs only show symptoms for around 2 weeks so you have to try to keep her locked up 2 weeks before you expect a heat cycle and 2 weeks after you see signs of it being finished to make sure you cover the whole time she could possibly get pregnant. Young dogs in their first heat often show no symptoms at all so you could miss it completely and she could be bred accidentally. They have managed to breed through chain link, climb chain link, and chew through it too. It is usually the male that is the one determined to get to the female but she will help if she can. The good thing is that even though they have been known to do all that it isn't really common. A good, sturdy chain link fence that she can't dig out of or climb over is usually (cross your fingers) good enough. If you have any male dogs around you can watch them for signs of becoming obsessed with her and generally acting like fools which will give you an idea if she's coming into heat in case she doesn't show any signs of it. The dogs will know even if you don't.

If she is only 4 month old I dont think she is in heat . Some one
could have gave you the wrong papers or had the wrong date the
dog was born. Anyway I have never seen a 4 month dog in heat.
But may be there is a lot of things I have not seen.
