Have never had this problem in dogs but very common in cows and rumenant animals, it is due to the over uptake of one of two things, to much air (swallowing of airbetween bites) or more commonly to much eating of feed which contains indigestible material to the animal, or vary hard material for the animal to digest. In dogs they do not possess the enzymes that can easily digest corn or wheat products, which is a major component in cheaper dog foods, the dog's stomach thus slowly breaks down this stuff and gases form causing a "twist" that can lead to blockage. The main way to keep this from happeneing is to feed dog food with a higher MEAT (not protien which is usually derived from soy in dogfood) percentage. Also when you see Meat byproducts on the bag people get this idea that this is bad, but you must realize animals eat things we do not seem appetizing in the wild, Eyeballs, testicles, brains, etc. This is still much better for them then the indigetsible grain products.

If you have dogs that eat to fast and throw up afterwards you can try putting large fist sized rocks in their pan. It forces them to slow down and eat around the rocks, I work at a vet clinic and this is the advice we give to owners whos dogs eat way to fast and vomit afterwards and it seems to work in each case. Also on the feeding thing my dogs are on automatic feeders they eat a ton when you first switch them to this but gradually eat a lot less and are never overweight they realize that the food is going to be there all the time and only eat a bite here and there when they are hungry and dont gorge themselves like dogs only fed once a day or even two times a day.

Just Wondering how much you guys feed your hounds? im talking dry dog food. how many times per day and how much food please?

I FEED ONE 44 ONCE CUP PER DAY.

THEY ARE AROUND 60# HOUNDS. LARGER ONES MAY NEED MORE.

mine get roughly that aswell. between 5-6 cups once per day in the morning. and if they hunt that night ill feed them a bit after the hunt.

i caught my neighbors outside feeding my dogs the other day and i was told i didnt feed them enough. which didnt settle well by me because my dogs are all very healthy and eat quality dog food.

i just wanted to check what yall feed um to make sure im not in the wrong here.

That is what my neighbors and my fathers girlfriend thinks. I always catch her feeding my dogs, which never turns out good. I feed mine a bit over 5 cups a day.

does feeding your dog before goin to hunt make a difference in how well it might hunt or maybe how much drive it has. what do yall think.. do you feed before hunting or after your done hunting???
