Ehrlichia and borrelia are both bacteria that affect dogs that are transmitted through tick bites. Both are pretty common and I have heard both call "tick fever". Borrelia is the same thing as lyme disease. The treatment for both are similar. You treat with antibiotics, usually tetracycline or doxycycline. Some people will vaccinate for lyme disease but not really a vaccine for ehrlichia.

The vet give me a 30 day supply of tetracycline, 2 pills a day. Does
he need to be on the meds. longer or is 30 days long enough?
Once the dog gets ehrlichia can it be complety cured or will they
have a relapse of the disease?

A 30 day cycle is pretty normal for the tetracycline. The bacteria is probably gone a while before the 30 days, but we do the whole month just to be safe. As far as relapse, the cycle of antibiotics should be enough to knock it out and relapse wouldnt be a problem unless he was reinfected, so you wouldnt treat him any different than another dog.

Tick Fever = Babesia
Ehrlichia (not urlickia) is very similar to babesia.

If you want to learn more about these diseases, read this link: http://www.johnkoerner.org/SportingDogBlog/babesia.html

It contains a lot more information that what can be put on a post.

Good luck,

Jack
