Post subject:  ... A dogs worst nightmare! or mine?

We just recently moved into a new home, and i noticed a few fleas comin into my house! I am assumin they were in the yard prior to us movin in.... I read on here somewhere and i cant seem to find the post now, but theres somethin you can use on dogs that last for 3 mths and your not suppose to bath them with the dog flea shampoo stuff first. Its somethin that goes on there coat and even while in the woods it doesnt rub off??? Im tryin to control the problem before they get to my dogs so any help from you all would be great!!! Thanks!

It's quite possible the flea problem was in the house before you moved in and since you moved in, they are showing because they have a blood host. Without a blood host, fleas die off.

I been to rental homes that when you walked in, the fleas covered your legs as they were dying and needed the blood host to survive.

Frontline, Advantage, and etc... is what you are looking for:

To treat yard, you can get some Permethrin - 10 concentrate and mix up and spray down. Be sure to cut grass before applying.

It's also safe to use on dogs (check the label for pup's age)

You can buy it at most feed stores as it is also used on livestock and livestock pens.

i have always used happy jack flea and tick dip.
you don't flea shampoo the dogs first because it washes the oils off the hair folicals that the dip needs to be there to stick too.

use permetharin at 6% ,but wash dogs with dawn soap first this will kill the fleas on them and then dip dogs in permetharin at 6%.do this first then do it again in 10 days, then you will only have to do it once a month, treat you pen area and or cage area with malathan, used for tomato gardens.do not let the dogs lick it or digest it.

In my opinion, I only seen them work on Ticks and Flies. Haven't hung them in kennel. Put them on collars like below:

I use the cattle tags nothing even compares to them and the are cheap I run them on all my dogs and they never have any fleas or ticks. All u gotta do is clip them on the inside of your collar and ur good to go for a long time

Hello,
Doc Neal here. i'm going to take a shot at this advice thing again, hopefully I'm better prepared this time.
buckshot is right they (fleas) do need a blood host and they can live in the yard or environment for awhile. so not only do you need to treat the dog you need to treat the yard/environment as well. Alot of these recommendations I am not familiar with so I will only speak on what I know! So hope this helps.
Frontline/Frontline or Advantage/advante plus work well. Advantix works well but it IS toxic to cats and children!!! So be careful. All of these are found over the counter at your local Wal-Mart,Target, Home Depot etc.
There are some oral pills that work as well and you can still bathe the dog. The most common side effect is vomiting if your hound has a sensitive stomach. The two that I like the best are Comfortis, and Trifexis. You usually have to get these from a vet.
I hope this helps!
Good luck and good hunting,
Doc Neal
