How many of you have your vets clean your hounds' teeth? And how often?
Does anybody actually brush their dogs' teeth? I can't believe how often I've seen that recommended, but I've never done it, and never known anybody to do it.
Of course, most of my pet dogs (not healthy hounds) have had to have teeth pulled by the time they started getting old...
Just curious. My vet's office keeps sending reminders to bring them in for teeth cleanings, but I've never done it. Their teeth look good to me! But when I remember that old toothless german shepherd I once had (she was toothless when I got her), sometimes I wonder how useful it really is.

The only time I have ever seen a dog with cruddy teeth is when the dog is fed only canned food and nothing requiring a good chewing. Of course if the dog gets an infected or broken tooth it is a different matter but a good diet, sturdy beef bones, chewy toys and crunchy treats do a lot for keeping the dog's teeth strong and healthy.

I have a TW female that is almost 3 years old, she had the worst plak build up that I have ever seen. I feed strickly dry dog food and don't have any teeth problems. I decided to scrap it off myself and it turned out very well and she seems greatful for it. I think she is just swallowing her food and not chewing it.
