Need some info and help. Just got dog and took to vet. Blood work came back positive for heartworms. Vet will cost a lot about 1500 to get rid of them. Any other remedies or wormers out there to cure? Dog is 3 and half year old female walker. Thanks!

I'm sure Google will provide you with the answers you need. I always keep my dogs on meds so never had a problem with it. I will say don't give them ivomec it will kill them.

It's so expensive because it has to be done carefully and gradually. If you kill them all at once the dog can die from clots of dead worms causing blockages. Ivomec isn't what kills dogs it's the sudden die-off of a lot of heartworms that does it. Best thing to do is keep your dogs on a regular dosing schedule. Ivomec can be dangerous to some of the herding breeds but there are other meds on the market that are safe for them.
