Maybe he's extra marking his territory. Are there any mice or other vermin getting in and under his dog house? Coyotes or new male dogs in the area? He could be losing bladder control if something scares him or if he's injured himself.

He's probably just making sure the other dog has no doubts about whose territory it is.

my dog is doing the same thing he is the only male. I think it was the new straw i put in it. Maybe something has peed on my straw before i got it.I'm cleaning box out and cedar chipping to see if it's going to help otherwise it's a barrel & chain.

Some times older dogs well pee when there sleeping and not realize that there doing it. There is a drug that I had to give by bird dog I think it was called PPPA I think. Might want to take him to vet.
