Our Dawn female skipped her last heat (has been about 9 1/2 months since her last heat cycle) and we were wondering if there was any way possible that we haven't already tried to bring her in heat. She is 5 years old, in great health and has had three litters before. I think she skipped her last heat because we were hunting her really hard and she was very lean and muscular. I've heard that this can cause them to skip. Well, we'd like to breed her to our old male again as we've made her a NITECH and the last litter had some really nice coon dogs in it. The male will be 12 in January and frankly, he's not getting any younger lol.

We have tried kenneling her with another dog in full blown heat, full-spectrum lighting, fattening her up and worming her good. Does anyone know of any other NATURAL ways of bringing her in heat or do we just have to wait till she's due to come in again?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm just guessing here but muscling up tends to get the hormones out of whack a bit (I used to weightlift a bit, believe it or not) and you indicate she was really in shape and skipped a heat cycle. Maybe letting her slack off a bit, hunting lightly will help get her back in cycle. Also keep trying to have other females in heat around. It really does seem to make some dogs go in heat if another dog does too.

If you have another female that is coming in you can put them in together sometimes that works for me --- 75% ---dogs will try to cycle at the same time just like humans its a hormone thing

give her some more time. when you got her she might have just come out of heat. they normally come in around every 6mo depending on the dog. you sure she hasnt been spayed???

My blue dog didnt come into her first heat until she was 2 and we had her since she was 8 weeks old. Never had a dog not come into heat but I will be watching as we have been hunting her hard trying to get her going before we breed her. I do know that she would come into heat the same time as one of my other house dogs so I am sure it will help to bring her around another coming in....crazy women.

You should give it a year before you panic. Some dogs cycle 6 months and some cycle 12 months. Some are just plain irregular but those aren't too common.
