after hunting, the next morning i call my dog to go outside and she gets off the bed with a limp in the left rear leg, I felt of the foot and pads and couldn't find anything wrong.. any ideas thanks

If this has been going on for quite sometime, it is best to see a vet. Your dog may have some joint issues which are not as pronounced now but may become worse with time. Good luck!

its not uncommon for a dog to have a sprain or strain just like people can get from doing physical activity

One of my dogs gets the same way, does your dog hunt deep just about every drop? If it does this could be the issue, I'm pretty sure that's the problem with mine, she likes to get out and run and will sometimes clear a mile on a single drop.

She runs very hard when she does hunt, she is a runner just like yours but, what I don't understand is that she don't limp when she is active, its always after hunting or excersise, hunting hard should still not affect them unless there was something wrong Im going to take her to the vet this next week because it don't seem to be getting better.

My male dog does the same thing. Its only when he does a lot of running. Especially since they're starting to haverst and we can cut the dogs loose from the road and let them run a few acres to the woods. My opinion is that ur dog, same as mine, don't wanna disappoint us by showing pain. If my boy is limping around and sees me coming with a lead strap to get one of my other dogs he stops it real quick lol! Guess that goes yo show that my dog wants to go huntin! went to the vet today and it turns out her knee is blown out when the vet asked us if she was ever nicked by a car or fell from something and i told him that one time she took a hefty fall from a tree and landed on her rear leg, but she never showed symptoms until months after that, but I am certain that's what caused it, other than injury he said it could possibly be inherited, but I certainly hope that inheritance isn't the problem, she is too good of a dog to be a pet, i will probobly get it fixed.

Hate to hear that, at least now you know what the problem is. I think mine is from my dog hunting so hard though, it's usually the right leg but sometimes its one of her front legs too so i'm not sure. I know when she was young she got tore up bad by a bear in front of that right rear leg. That's possibly her problem. Hope all works out for you and your dog though, God Bless and happy huntin!

I am willing to get it fixed, if i get her to surgery in the next few weeks she will be back to hunting around the end of January, I am not worried about the $$$ because she will pay us back with the Bobcat and Coon fur, and definetly don't want to turn her into a pet because she has to much hunting skill that will just go to waste, and starting another dog is not something i have time for in the near future

i have a different situation. i have an 11 month old pup. 3 weeks ago he fractured his leg while treeing. jumped came down and bam. well they vet had a cast on it. it was causing sores and stuff. and today i went back and they said it hasnt healed any because he has been to jumpy and the caast was sliding and stuff. they said he may have a limp for they rest of his life. does a small to medium limp effect the competition ability of running. not as far as nose but just being able to cover more ground as fast as other dogs. what do yall think. young may be fine or what?? any info would be appreciated. thanks

If the limp is small to medium it shouldn't effect his hunting any, he may not be able to run as fast but it is probably only a very small difference in speed, if the limp is small he will be able to keep up with the other dogs
