They did not use last names like we do but they had something similiar. Remember it was Jesus 'of Nazareth' and 'son of Joseph'. Saul 'of Tarsus' and Simon 'the Zealot'. They had handles but a bit different than ours. For the Hebrew people a man would be known as the son of his father so it would be Jesus Bar-joseph, bar meaning 'son of...'. You can bet when he told them he was the 'son of God' that got one of two reactions, worship him or kill him. Where they came from was also tacked on to their front name. Last names for most folks of whatever descent are specific to your background. It gets confusing in some circles but for those from euro-heinz 57 extractions we understand Jones, Johnsons, Petersons and MacDonalds. Irish and Scottish names are clan linked but Scandinavians can be based on location your from or who your pa or grandpa was. In asian countries it's all different and I got no idea what folks do with it in african countries.

I heard a joke, goes like this...'A country boy dies and finds himself at the gates of heaven. Peter is there holding the keys and asks him, Say there boy, what is God's first name? The boy smiles and says, Oh that's an easy one. I heard that in a song we sing at church. It goes "Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me" His first name is Andy mister. Peter had to admit, that made sense to him. Peter told him to report to Andy right away.
Sorry if this one is not exactly good theology but it was a funny one.
