There are fellas up the road from me who run a bear guide service, and do guided hunts with dogs, for nearly 50 years they have been using black and tan pit bull crosses. I have hunted with these guys several times and I must say they are darn good bear dogs. I have hunted my dogs with them and never had any of them be Ill with my dogs at the tree or in the truck. So saying that there will be a dogfight at the tree before you get there is completely unfounded.

Truthfully it's all in how you raise your dogs and what bloodlines like gater mouth and jeep are gamebred dogs

These bloodlines should help with hunting and should cross well with hound to make bear dogs

Try an Airedale Terrier. They are the biggest of the terriers so they have gritt and are courageous. But at the same time they get to be between 45 and 60 punds so they are a good sized dog. They have a pretty good nose and won't back down to anything
