a dog that can be thrown in. not reliable to rig, but will run a trail. may lose the bear or not be able to pressure it enough to get the bear to tree or bay up on its own. will bay/tree a bear with other dogs. may occasionally back track or may go off on other game (may or may not be trash game ie switch to a hot coon or cat track if it is exosed to other game also). this is what i considered a started hound regardless of the game.
