Seeking knowledge; trying to get started in coon hunting , have raised fox / deer hounds most of my 37 years but have very little (none) experience with coon hunting . Partial to black dogs and have made my way to some good stock in black as well as a nice red male . However lacking in training knowledge to instill good habits in a dog . I know opinions very from houndsman to houndsman looking for someone in the Virginia area preferable, willing to be a mentor/friend to someone starting out .(804)380-7294

Since you have hound experience it is a natural instinct for a hound to hunt. You just need to teach them what to run. I would do a little scouting in your hunting areas and find some coon sign. Take your dogs hunting there to see if they will run one. Maybe even put a feeder out to get some hot tracks for them. Good Luck.
