Hi Guys,
I have always liked Black and Tans and I plan on getting back into hounds in the next year or so when I retire. I really do not want to start a pissing contest and do not want to start a ny fights concerning different blood lines but would like a little advice or knowledge on a few lines I have researched.
But first let me say I will run mostly bobcats with a few coon when cat season is closed. I live in the western United States and will remain here and will very lilely end up in SW Oregon or Northen California so you know what kind of ground I will be hunting. Enough info..
It seems that there are a few lines that suit cat hunting and they are Three Times Albert dogs out of Gene Hicks line, Ken Duncan's Black and Tans and I keep picking up tid bits of info on a line "Trackdown Kennels" but it is only a line or two here and there and I have yet to see any real info or who has the line of dog. I would also like to through in one last line and that would be the wagner line out of the nighthawk kennels. Now if I understand correctly the old wagner line was one of the first to try and bring down the size of the old B&T's. Also my understanding is that all these above mentioned lines are the lighter smaller B&Ts (males 60-70 & Females 50-60) when in hunting shape.
I would like to hear any and all comments or experiences (Good & Bad) or suggestions of a line berrter than these if you have one.

I have a friend in Pa. that's tried every line of black dogs on the planet & he won't run anything but the Trackdown dogs. Merold Mooney in Wis. is the one that started the line. I can get his ph. # if you're serious.

A friend has awsome black and tan coonhounds,that are modern coon bred variety. We tried several of them on bear at different times. They are great track dogs, but do not have the grit. They get bear broke in one weekend and then wont even run.

Anything out of Gene Hicks albert dogs are track driven dogs that should be great on cats.I really like six time albert he is a track driven machine.Just my thoughts don't know that much about the black dogs I am a blueticker all the way,but if I were to try a black dog it would be one Gene's albert dogs.Goodluck Donnie

[color=#FF0080]We bear hunt in WVa with black and tans. Many of the black and tans bear dogs in our area are Albert breed dogs out of Hicks. (The tighter the better)They are well built for the Mountains with lots of grit. I have a buddy that has a dog out of the trackdown line ...Great dog too. One thing he doesnt care to much is the hair. The skin is very oily. He has to be very careful with the bedding etc. because the hair falls out. He had her shipped in from out West. He is not for sure if it is because the climate is so different or what. But like I said, Hicks breed is very popular here. Most black and tan men here wont even consider hunting any our lines. That is just my opinion and what we have had the best luck with. Hope this helps Rachel WVa

i have a black dog out of three time albert that is a treeing machine he can also push a track really well it didnt take much to make him a coon dog

i meet mr moony today for the first time. he lives about 20 miles from me if you need help getting ahold of him let me i will see what i can do. seemed like a nice guy talked to him for about an hour, he wasn't always bragging on his dogs or trying to one up me with stories.

merold is still hunting his trackdown dogs, i had a buddy that had a couple years ago and they were by far the best i have seen, bear cat coyote lion it didnt matter they have brains nose stamina and heart to spare, if you could ever get your hands on a trackdown b@t you better get it
