i never thought much of bears and cat hunting ..but looking at these pictures and adventures out in the woods with good dogs and big game loook amazing!!! I really want to try it out one day!
I run bear and hog. I can't speak for cat runners but, I'll bet we all feel pretty much the same about it. There is a stigma to hunting something that can hurt you if they so choose. Not all dogs will make big game dogs. Just like some won't make coon dogs but, some dogs are just flat out affraid of larger animals. I've seen dogs honestly lay down and pee straight up when walked into their first bayed bear or hog. Just laying eyes on this critter and all the ruckus and ear peircing bawls and the over whelming scent (mainly on hogs but, some bears just stink to high heavens) is enough to over load these dogs and they can't handle it. The challenge of "playing the cards" and holding out for a bigger or different colored bear is another reason we like it. Most places your only allowed 1 bear a year. So killing a small bear only to tree a true brute the next day and having to let it go. This happened to me last year. Treed bear and either chose not to take it or let someone else take it. Before I knew it it was the last day of season and I was at work trying to make soup out of my bear tag. All in all it's just another way for the guys who like hunting with hounds to get out of the house. And it's an addition.
