I voted 6months, if they dog has the heart then he should be able to catch on. not saying he will be treeing at 6months. but if the dog wants to there is no reason it cant tree before it is a year old. seen it happen plenty of times. NOCTURNAL NAILOR WAS A GRNITECH WHEN HE WAS 1 YEAR OLD! GOTA HAVE THE HEART!

As soon as my pups can travel with me they are in the woods when I am hunting. As long as they can keep up and travel they are going with to learn. No subsitute for the real thing. Lots of ground work at home from the moment they arrive.

If you are able to let them run loose do that. If they got it in them they will start theirself and then you will know when to take them to the woods.

I said 5 months and wish it had a younger option.. starting a pup begins as soon as it's old enough to get around and start forming a personality. I beleive it makes all the difference in the world as to how that pups been socialized and his confidence has been built, if he's gonna hunt he will hunt, but how he sees the world and reacts to it is a lot up to us.....

But I guess starting isn't nessesarily meaning running or treeing. I like to put the dog into lots of different situations so he'll have confidence in me first....

i voted six months for starting as far as running hides and stuff but you have to start them at about 8 weeks. Tug of war with a hide and such. You can start running hides and such at four months for some dogs or even 8 months for others.
