I coonhunt on our own land and this year i shot a 12 pointer scored 127 with my bow and my brother shot a 8 pointer 21 inch spread scored 135 with gun. i also have seen deer not move from their beds at night and if they do they dont seem to run very far. doesnt seem to bother the deer too much.

Both years I took a deer with my bow, I ran my dog through right under my treestand the night before, and deer came through the next morning...so from my experience, NO!

Most places I run my dog have plenty of deer...until rifle season...then they start to disappear, but before then, they stick around (even when they got chased by the dog before I got him broke off deer).

I'd just ask to run your dog, and let the land owner know you plan on staying out around any deer season his deer hunters hunt, before the landowner can even give you a yes or no answer.

Some deer hunters are looking for something to blame as to why they didn't see the deer they wanted. Those are the ones who aren't real students of the woods, they show up in the woods only during their hunting season and they bought all the latest whoo haa gadgets, read all the magazines and feel they have a god given right to take a trophy buck. They are like little spoiled kids and are ready to whine and cry when things don't go their way. They come packing more excuses in their brains than bullets in their gun. And they are looking for a reason to use all of them up. The other kind of deer hunter hunts squirrels, birds, coons and all the rest of whatever is hunted in their part of the country They know that deer don't go far from home unless they are being dragged out after being shot. They also know that up north deer get chased and eaten by wolves but there's still plenty of healthy deer there to hunt so why would it be any different having hunting dogs chasing them somewhere else. I'll even toss another THAT"S RIGHT in. Those of us who spend time out in the woods year round know it all comes down to our skills and persistence, we either win or lose but blaming others is for punks.
