A farmer wants me to sign some form so i can con hunt his land, but he hasnt explained the form to me...but its somthing about not shootin coon out of season(well duh) and keeping off the neighbors property..but how could i controll the dogs....i WILL READ IT REALLY CLOSELY when i sign it, IF I DO decide to sign it., jstu want your opinion.

it sounds like a contract or something to where if you get hurt on his property he wont be liable

Some state laws require written permission to hunt. Doesn't sound like that much of an issue to me.

I dont think INdiana requires written permission, but somthing seems fishy about it. i need to re-read it about 5 times before i sign it i think.

sounds like he is just tring to cover his butt and i dont see a problem with that

everyother place we are alowed to hunt we dont have written permission, and never had to prove we had permission to anyone. Yea, i under stand that the guy might be able to cover his anis...haha, we're gonna hunt there tomorrow but read that thing a few extra times fro we go hunt it.

In this age of law suites he is just protecting himself by having you sign a paper releasing him from responsibility for anything you might do or that might happen to you. We have a game farm and have people sign them all the time. Its required in order for us to buy insurance here. We had a hound field trial here this month and rewrote the release so we could protect the hound club as well.
While this protects the farmer against your actions and sets some guide lines as to how you hunt, it does not protect him if he were to say deliberatly shoot a hound of yours. He still has some resposibilites to up hold to.
Read it to make sure it is agreable to you but if it is like most releases, I wouldn't be to concerned about signing it.

I agree with waterway-I bet the contract is basically gonna say that YOU won't sue HIM if something happens to you or your dogs while you're on his land.Around here, not only do you have to have written permission, but you're supposed to leave it in the windshield of your truck where the warden can see it -supposedly, if you do that, they won't walk in on you while you're sitting on stand, but I've never seen it stop them.Our game wardens are getting a raw deal and they take it out on the hunters.I've actually written such a contract up and gotten the land owner to sign it-kind of like a lease-if I promise not to sue you,or trash the place (you'd be surprised what people will do to land that THEY have permission to hunt) you won't let every Joe blow hunt here when I'm not around.And keep in mind- if it's not notorized, it won't stand up in court anyway.It wouldn't sound that fishy if you had as much at stake as he does.

im not an expert, but i got a few lawyer friends and i always let them look over any contract i sign before i sign it. you might want somebody to look over it before you sign it, otherwise who knows, he might be trying to manipulate you somehow. just a suggestion.
