I loved the book, I loved the first movie, the second was okay. I am the kind of person who hates to read a book unless it is about hunting or baseball. I think this was a great novel. I read a book recently called 'Seasons and Days ; A Hunting Life' by Thomas McIntyre. It is a bunch of short stories/recolections of different hunts, on different game, on different continents. I loved the book, I already started re-reading it. If you get the chance, Read this one.

Heard Old Yeller was probably a blackmouth cur but recently heard that it was probably a blue lacy. Heard that the author knew someone who had lacys and wrote about it..they come in blue,blue/tan, red (bright yellow to dark red) Mine is bright yellow. Let me see if I can down load a pic.

His name is Moonshine and he hates coons. I can't find a coonhunter in KS or northern OK yet. He is semi retired from hog hunting due to injuries incurred during a baying and a car hit him breaking his front leg in 4 places costing me $1,400 to get it fixed. Worth every dollar. Vet says he can't run really hard like he used to so I'm looking into trying to turn him into coon dog.

For info on blue lacys go to: www.lacydog.com

This book is what got me interested in hounds in the first place, and i dont regret it at all. I saw the 1974 movie first then read the book then saw the remake from 2004. i like the original one the best though.

I too had to read the book in school and yes it made me cry alittle. Hunting was something my family has always done. My mom got started with her uncle who ran redbones. I myself love to run redbones but my three brothers and mother are die hard walkers. Guess I am the oddball. The book was great and did have a part in me having redbones.

I love it. It's what got me into coon hunting also. I have a ten year old cousin that wanted to tag along the other night so I let him go. After we were done I gave him my old copy to read. My wife just rolls her eyes. She knows there will be another 4 or 5 coon dogs coming to the neighborhood when he gets done with the book.

Just curious how many have read the book or seen the movie. I remember watching it in 6th grade and have read the book probally a dozen timed. Its what got me wanting to get my own dogs.

Similar story here. I just watched the movie the other night for the first time with my wife. She loved it. Cried a lot, but loved it. It is a great story.

Does anyone know where the dogs came from that where in the first move? Who was the breeder or owner?
