I was out with my buddy last night, when we heard a strage sound. We were out where we nomally hunt at with my dog to let him get some exercise. We were walking through the field and my dog was about 50 yards ahead of us when we heard something that sounded like a pissed off bull about to charge, but there are no cattle in that field. My dog came running back as fast as possible so we went back to the truck. Anyone think they know what the noise was? My friend thought it was a mountain lion, but we didn't want to stick around to find out.

Was it a blowing sound. If so probably startled a deer. Amy

It wasn't deer, cause my dog isn't completly deer broke yet. He would have tried to catch it not run from it.

what you describes exactly is a deer snorting it could have startled [scared] your dog before he knew what it was, if they are close when they do it it can raise the hair on the back of your neck !

But personaly I like the BIGFOOT THEARY !!

A doe protecting a fawn will not run from your dog right away and they have been known to attack people and dogs. For some reason the dogs almost always run from a charging doe. It could grunt loudly like a hog, stomp its feet or wheeze/blow VERY loudly - from 75 yards away it might sound like it was right next to you. You might not see it if you weren't looking for something that far away.

Sounds like deer to me cause I had the same thing happen to me a couple of times. Sounds like bigfoots grunting and stomping around out in the brush when it is just a deer. The other night I was huntin and we were walking along this old road and heard something stirring in front of us and I had my walking light and shined out at it and saw it was black. So i figured it was my B&T pup so we got a litlle closer and saw that whatever it was it was big and kinda running back and forth along the road and just recently wildlife folks let out big cats to thin deer popualation and my heart skipped a few beats and then it looked back at us. And guess what, It was a frickin baby calf.  Yeah. I felt ashamed of my bad self that nite.

Starting about now all the way through the summer a doe is likely to stand her ground and make a lot of noise. A couple of summers ago I walking along with a couple of my birddogs. Both went into some pretty heavy cover and a few moments latter I see one of them hauling butt out the other side with a doe about 20 feet behind, she decides he is no longer a threat and then runs into the brush again and procedes to run the other dog out. That time she ended up about 15 feet in front of me on the same path, I was afraid she was going to put me on the move as well but I made some movement and she ran back into the brush and left me alone. I decided to pack up the dogs and leave her alone as well.
