I accidentally let a caged coon go in town and it went up the only tree in the neighborhood.

to shoot out the coon, a dumpster in a parking lot will do! LOL
Depends on how many coon are there and how unhappy the neighbors will be if your dog trees their cat. Some dogs will keep going until they find a coon, some will check back in. If your dog hunts deep, its gonna need more land to hunt on or it will get beyond the property you have permission to hunt on. If your dog checks in regularly and you walk in with it, you can probably keep it on a pretty small patch of land... Personally, I have access to hundreds of thousands of acres of state forest, so I don't go on less than 40 acres unless someone wants me removing coons for them. I have turned my dog out in a small cornfield when I knew a farmer was having a coon problem, though.
