I will be retiring from the Marine Corps in August and would like to join a club. I just bought a house in Port Matilda in Centre County and will be relocating my family Memorial Day weekend. Then in August I will be there and ready to hunt. I am about 400 yards from State Gamelands #176. Looking for some people who just like to hunt and share knowledge.

Talk to Terry Lucas from Lion Country Supply in Port Mathilda, he probably knows of anyone out that way. I'm about an hour and a half from there(northeast), but am a grad. student at Penn State and have family out that way.

Thanks,

Iam totally excited to get back into it full swing. I was pretty fortunate to be able to hunt on a regular basis this past year. After 20 yrs of the Corps moving me around, it will be nice to spend most of my time with my son and the hound.

I work at Lion Country and do some hunting around here. There are not any clubs real close but there are a few guys with hounds. You will find a pile of coon in gl 176 and surrounding areas.

Andy,
I guess I will have to come to the store in May and introduce myself. So where can I find the polices on running dogs during the non-gun season? I tried looking on the PA DNR website, no luck there.

Try www.pgc.state.pa.us the Game Commission website. You can run hounds any time all year, but the kill season starts in the middle of Oct.

That is correct. There is no closed season to run only killing!

Thanks handy1 and Andy,

I just found the regulation Chapter 23, Subchapter E, Sec 2382.
It also states one doesn't need a license to run dogs, so I can wait until the 2006/2007 licenses come out instead of buying a 2005 for a couple months. So there will be a Black dog treeing in GL # 176 Mermorial Day weekend.

Andy,
I looked up Lion Country on the web, very impressive, I can't wait to get in town for good. I also submitted a resume, since I saw they were hiring. What better place to be during the week and it be considered a place of employment.
