I could care less about killing coons. I just want to hear my dogs run and tree them. I will kill one if I know someone is going to make use of it. I dont just kill it because I can. I live trap coon in my back yard all the time. When I'm through with them I take them to the country and turn them loose. I just set this one free the other day.

i kill almost all the coons i tree durring kill season due to the fact that they are overpopulated in the region where i live....if i lived in a place where they were scarce i prolly would not practice the same approach

Bootlegger the coons in your area look differnt in color than the ones around my house. Here's one we trapped not long ago and let the pups get a good sniff/bark and released.

i have a cousin who rebuilds condemned houses in the city. they have cats and the coons come in to eat the cat food.he keeps my live trap and i pick em up on my way home from work in the morning. you have to keep em hungry for a while before you turn em loose or they will travel back to their home range, unless youre like me and live 50 miles from nowhere :D . i know of a local produce farmer who caught one and as a gag, spray painted it with orange paint, hauled it about 15 miles, cut it loose and caught it again a week later. thats a bit off subject, but when i was coon huntin i shot out for pups and occasionaly my broke dogs. i had people to give em to or i ate em.

there aren't many coons here based on what my two feists tell me. but who knows, if i had a real coondog, i might find that there are many of them here. if that's the case, i'll knock out one from time to time to treat my dogs. i too want to eat one. my wildlife club has an annual wild game dinner. so far no one has brought any coon. very few people around here hunt them. i just recently found one hunter and he is willing to take me aloong.

I have never eaten coon before. I just couldn't bring myself to it. My family is big game eaters though. They have eaten just about anything you can think of at one time or another. They say the coon is a bit greasy. My husband live trapped a boar the other day. Our first one. He was going to use it train our pup. I'm tellin' ya there is no way I could bring myself to kill it. That thing was just so darn cute sittin' in that cage. Now don't get me wrong, it's not everything I feel that way about. I could kill a deer in a heartbeat. I love to eat em' and quit frankly if we don't then that's money we need to come up with to feed ourselves. It's not that I don't think they are a beautiful creature, bu that is the way God intended. But we don't kill without a purpose. We will probably give them to family to eat or my husband will eat em'. We ended up lettin' him go because our pup rough housed too much with the other red and sprained her hip (we think) so she is resting. Tell ya the truth, I think my husband was relieved to let it go...   :P :P :P

Coon is greasy (they say allot like bear, because they have a simialr diet, I never had bear though) but you have to clean it good and make sure you cut the glands out properly or it will be unedible. I parboil mine pour off the water so It dont be greasy. I dont like messin with it and rather sell em to people who do and get the money to go to KFC to eat!LOL!
