sorry i know this is a health question but i'm afraid it may be an emergency. i have a 6 week old pup today has white gums, looks skinny, lays around very lazily. any help would be greatly appreciated. waiting for responses.

GET HIM/HER TO THE VET NOW!!!!OR ASAP!!!! try to keep it warm and make sure it is getting enough oxgen this is an emergency!!!! please let us know if it makes it or not. hope it does.

if the gums are white I would say worms , but would not suggest trying any home medicating a 6wk old pup, I too say get it to the vet ASAP.

until you can get it to the vet try to get him to drink, Pedialite if you can get it. Will keep him hydrated and has electrolytes, it is for kids. also keep him warm.

also you are in the same area that we are and being after hours you can call the Columbia Emergency Clinic. Will be in the phone book. Or most all vets have the # on their machines. And it has been a while since I have been there but I THINK Sunset Animal Clinic , by the hospital (lexington) has a emergency # on their machine too.

That dog could have parvo. Try to keep it hydrated and take it to the vet.

OK it's 3 am just got home from vet. yes i called sunset and got the # for the emergency off fernandina rd. thank you coonlady and yes it is parvo.went on ahead and got the med for him tonight and will take him to my vet first thing in the morning. thank you so much for the responses. glad to know there are people around when you need advice.

good deal glad you got the pup to the vet in time ive gotten a couple pups over parvo so they can pull threw good luck to ya give them plenty of water and vet might even give ya a syringe and some of the stuff to hydrate with my vet did but ive been with her fer a long time and she knows when it comes to me and my hounds i take no chances any sign of trouble right back to the vet good luck hope the pup pull threw

I'm so glad you didn't wait! I hope the pup makes it! If you have other dogs get them booster shots for parvo and clean/sterilize everything the pup had contact with so it isn't transmitted to other dogs.

Thanks for the advice everybody. the vet is keeping the pup and has IV to keep it hydrated. i hope he pulls through. and dangit!!!! this pup better be the next world champ after all this!!! LOL. thanks again everyone and i'll keep posting on his condition.
