just a thought i was settin here thinking...i was young last time i went hunting and actually got a coon..we usually get one and come home...
but you hunters that show pictures of a nights hunt with 10 coons...which is a heck of alot of coons for one night or a heck of a dog to get that many...
how do yall carry these coons? after getting one do ya take it back to the truck? could be a long walk back sometimes...i know with the weight of a coon ya ain't just carrying them around my hand...so what do ya do with them?

jimk,
skinning as you go makes sense, i mean, you got plenty of time to skin while the dog is out going for another one...but i see all these pictures online of one guy, one dog, and alot of coons and it says got in one night...like i said, must be a heck of a dog with a HECK of alot of coons in the woods to get that many, but the pictures always have the whole coons there in the picture...
just wondered how that many coons was carried out...that's alot of weight.
Kevin

The most we ever got was 3 in 1 night and my son carries a back pack and totes them in it. We freeze the whole coon, hide and all so we dont have to clean em in the field. Yeah those fellas must have some jam up hounds and lots of coon in thier neck of the woods!

here probably like most places in the country we have 1x1 mile sections and usually just walk the coon to the nearest road and do a run at the end of the night.

Kevin, these guys are hunting patches of land that is thick with coon.
They are not hunting places like we are. Where I am I hunting 9,000 acres (State Management land) 5 months out of the year in thin coon, they are hunting small patches of woods where the coon is thick.
I would love to have the coon population like up north. I'm in Madison county and it ain't any better here. It's probably worse because of all the development with the big jobs in Huntsville and the growth of Madison.
It's rare I hunt in the county here anymore because all the land is going away.

My best night ever was 23 coons in the back of my pickup and one that I couldn't get out of the tree. I think my best night this past year followed a call from a farmer who had a bunch of coons destroying his silage pile. We treed and shot 12 coons in two hours.

I have heard of these places where the coon are thick. I have some friends in Canada who tell me a 20 coon night is normal. I think my dogs and I would have a stroke if we ever got in coon that thick lol. As far as packin them out, I have done it a few times, but sometimes it's a few miles to the truck and man it can be tough goin.

The most coon I have gotten in one night is 18.. 10 in one drop it was a patch woods/corn field.. I carried them out to the road... 2 at a time.. I bring along a twine string and tie it to the coons back leg and throw them over my shoulder.. I carry them to the nearest road and make a pile. then go get the truck and pick them up. The only problem i have with this way.. is my young hounds like to pull the coon out of the pile.. unless they go tree another one. The worst coon to carry out was the 43 pounder.. I had to take him by himself.. too heavy to carry.. he got drug most of the way..lol..

Your one tough cookie Susie! I posted a pic of a pretty big coon on here last Fall. The truth of the matter is I left him in the woods all night and recruited a little help to pack him out the next mornin!
